How to label a parcel correctly (UK addresses)

A bad label causes more delays than bad packing. Here is the right way to label.

UK address format

Recipient name. House number or name + street. Locality (optional). Town in CAPITALS. Postcode in CAPITALS, with a single space.

Where to stick it

Largest flat face. Never over a seam. Never over the top flap of a sealed box (will tear).

Backup return address

Always write your return address on the box (not just the label). Labels fall off; ink does not.

FAQ

What if my postcode is wrong?

Most networks deliver anyway via address match, but you risk a 1–2 day delay.

Do I need a barcode?

Yes — every courier service includes one on the booked label. Hand-written addresses go via Royal Mail standard service only.
