What you can and cannot send by courier in the UK

Sending the wrong thing gets your parcel returned, destroyed, or worse. Here is the list.

Universally prohibited

Cash and bullion, illegal drugs, firearms, fireworks, lithium batteries loose (in-device often allowed), gases, flammable liquids.

Restricted (allowed with conditions)

Alcohol (DPD/Parcelforce only), perfume (limited quantity), aerosols (some couriers), batteries (in-device, declared).

Surprises

Many couriers refuse used car parts (oil contamination), animal products, and human/animal remains (yes, really).

FAQ

Can I send a knife by courier?

Yes, but kitchen and craft knives must be packed so the blade cannot puncture the box. Bladed weapons require age verification.

Are nail polishes allowed?

Usually not — flammable liquid restriction. Some couriers allow under 30 ml.
