Proof of delivery: photos, signatures and PIN codes explained

Photos, signatures and PIN codes all count as proof — but they protect different parties differently.

Photo proof

Most economy couriers now photograph every delivery. Useful for 'where is it?' disputes but not great evidence of who actually received it.

Signatures

Required for high-value, age-restricted or insured services. Recipient name is captured.

PIN codes

The strongest proof — the recipient enters a 4-digit code given only to them. Used by Amazon Logistics and dedicated-driver platforms like Wayspost.

FAQ

Can a courier leave my parcel without proof?

Only if you have given a safe-place instruction. Otherwise no.

Is a photo enough for an insurance claim?

Photos help but a signature or PIN is stronger evidence.
