How UK parcel tracking actually works in 2026

Tracking is not magic — it is a barcode scanned at certain points. Here is what each scan really tells you.

What gets scanned and when

Drop-off, depot in, depot out, delivery van loaded, out for delivery, delivered. Some networks scan more, some less.

Common confusing statuses

'At the hub' means it is in a regional sorting centre. 'Awaiting collection' means it is still with the sender.

'Delivered' with no photo from Evri or Yodel sometimes means delivered to a neighbour — check both sides of your door.

Real-time GPS tracking

Dedicated-driver platforms like Wayspost show live van location on a map for the final leg — closer to Uber than to courier tracking.

FAQ

Why does tracking go silent for days?

Between depot scans there is often no movement event. 48 hours of silence is normal; 5+ days is not.

Can I track from the recipient end?

Yes if the sender shares the tracking number, but you cannot raise claims as the recipient.
